Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Viktor Gyökeres, the dynamic forward from Sporting CP.

With an impressive tally in Liga Portugal this season, Gyökeres has become a prime target for the Premier League side.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Viktor Gyökeres, the forward from Sporting CP, who has had an impressive season in Liga Portugal, being involved in 22 goals in all competitions.

The Swedish player, who previously played for Coventry City, moved to Sporting CP last summer for about €20m.

In the Portuguese league, Gyökeres is currently second in the top scorers list, trailing Simon Banza of SC Braga.

This season, he has scored 15 goals goals and provided seven assists across 17 games in various competitions, playing a key role in Sporting CP’s season.

It is understood that Arsenal have had scouts observe Gyökeres closely on several occasions.

Despite his years on English soil, this marks the first time the 25-year-old striker has appeared on Arsenal’s radar.

Last summer, Gyökeres had opportunities to move to Newcastle United and Everton but chose Sporting instead, a decision that has been fruitful.

The striker’s performance has attracted attention from other clubs as well, with Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla also sending scouts to watch him play at Estádio José Alvalade.

However, acquiring Gyökeres would be a costly affair for Arsenal, as he has a buyout clause of €100m in his contract, and Sporting are apparently unwilling to sell for less.

Sporting’s coach, Rúben Amorim, has stated, “If a club is willing to pay €100 million, we can use some of that money to sign someone else. If that is the clause, I will accept it.”

Amorim also commended Gyökeres for his commitment and work ethic, saying, “He is always one of the first players at the club and works hard to get better every day. He is always available when I need him and is there when the team asks for it.”

Arsenal‘s interest in Gyökeres underlines their ambition to strengthen their attacking options, particularly with a player who has demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess in a top European league. As the January transfer window approaches, Arsenal fans will be keenly watching the developments surrounding this potential move.
