Arsenal are interested in Dominic Solanke as a January alternative to Ivan Toney, according to a report.

Alex Wood reports for the Daily Star that Mikel Arteta has shortlisted Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke as a back-up option for the January transfer window, should the club fail to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.

Wood claims that Toney remains Arteta’s top target for the January window, but the Gunners have a list of alternatives if their pursuit of the Brentford man proves fruitless.

Arsenal won’t pay over the odds for Toney, and Brentford may look to play the Gunners off of other interested clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Arteta has reportedly been impressed by Toney, and higher-ups at Arsenal believe the Bournemouth man can still improve.

But again, Arsenal aren’t the only interested club, with West Ham United also reportedly sniffing around. Bournemouth want £50m to sell.

On top of that, Dan George of BBC Radio Solent reports that Bournemouth owner Bill Foley recently said the door is “bolted shut” on any potential winter exits.

26-year-old Solanke has nine goals in 19 appearances this season, and he’s been a big part of Bournemouth’s recent upturn in form.

Bournemouth have won four of their last five games, drawing the fifth against high-flying Aston Villa.

Solanke has scored four goals in those five games, netting against Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Manchester United.
