Norway boss Ståle Solbakken has admitted Martin Odegaard is a major doubt to play for them over the international break, despite giving him a call-up.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been out of action for the Gunners lately, only playing a few minutes against West Ham United before failing to make the squad against Newcastle United entirely.

The midfielder wasn’t in training for Arsenal ahead of their match against Sevilla, and rumours suggest he won’t be in the squad on Wednesday night.

Yet Norway have called him up to their squad for the November international break all the same.

Unfortunately, that call-up is far from a sign that Odegaard has overcome his injury. Norway boss Ståle Solbakken admits the player is still a major doubt to play over the break, and he’s facing further fitness tests before then.

“We are worried about Martin. He is very doubtful,” Solbakken said. “He has an injury that doesn’t seem to let go. We’ll have to see what happens this week.

“He will be examined even more, then we will see what it brings in terms of matches and playing time.

“If he doesn’t play, it’s historic. He is the only one who has played all the games for me.”

After the Sevilla game, Arsenal face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday at 15:00 GMT.

Then the international break begins, with Norway taking on the Faroe Islands on Thursday, November 16th at 17:00 and Scotland on Sunday, November 19th at 19:45.

Norway have already failed to qualify for Euro 2024 through their qualification group, but it’s not impossible they might still end up in the play-offs based on their Nations League performance.
