‘Waka Waka’ holds a special place in Shakira’s heart as it was during the filming of its music video for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa that she first met Spanish footballer Gerard Pique.

The couple’s relationship started around that time, although they have since parted ways in mid-2022.

Shakira, in an interview with the German weekly Bunte in 2017, recalled the inspiration for her song ‘Me enamore’, which is specially dedicated to Pique.

She described their first meeting during the ‘Waka Waka’ video shoot as a moment that “changed my whole life,” likening it to being struck by a lightning bolt.
