David Seaman thinks the current goalkeeper situation at Arsenal is tough on both David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale, putting pressure on both of them.

The debate involving Arsenal’s goalkeeper position is set to continue this week, with Aaron Ramsdale predicted to come into Mikel Arteta’s side for the League Cup clash with West Ham United.

David Raya appears to be the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal at the moment, playing in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

But Ramsdale kept a clean sheet in his start for Arsenal against Brentford in the last round of the League Cup, and he’s likely to make the lineup again on Wednesday night.

Speaking about the situation this week, former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman suggested the attention must be tough on both players.

“David’s finding it tough to adapt to playing at a big club because of all the attention that’s on it, and the pressure, and it is another level from what he’s used to a Brentford,” Seaman pointed out.

“But it is tough because Aaron’s not done a lot wrong. Last year he was goalkeeper of the year as voted by the players. That’s one of the biggest awards that you could ever hope for.

“Then he started this season really well, played against Scotland, and finds himself on the bench. Aaron is only 24. He’s still got a long time to learn his trade but it’s a tough time for him at the moment.”

There’s always going to be pressure at a big club like Arsenal, so it’s arguably just something that the two goalkeepers will have to learn to deal with.

The furore around the goalkeeper selection situation will likely die down eventually, as soon as the next big selection controversy comes along.

For the time being, it’s inevitable there will be a few extra eyes on Ramsdale when he comes back into the team, as he’s expected to on Wednesday.
