William Saliba is expected to come into the France starting lineup against Greece on Tuesday night, with the French media anticipating wholesale changes.

L’Equipe (via GFFN) report that only two players from France’s last starting lineup will keep their places when the team face Greece on Tuesday night: Antoine Griezmann and Adrien Rabiot.

France thrashed Gibraltar 14-0 over the weekend, and it seems a new set of players will now get to feature against Greece.

If L’Equipe are right, France will be replacing their entire back four, which would mean William Saliba coming into the side. GFFN predict that the centre-back will start alongside Lucas Hernandez, Axel Disasi, and Jules Kounde.

France have already long since qualified for Euro 2024, but this will be their final game of qualification, against a Greece side set for the play-offs.

Though Greece are just three points back on the Netherlands ahead of the final game, their results against the Dutch mean they’ve already conceded the head-to-head advantage and can’t climb into second on the final day.

Fortunately, Greece’s strong Nations League performance will earn them a second chance in the play-offs, and they’ll want to give themselves a proper test against group winners France first.

ESPN pundit Steve Nicol said this week that Saliba has been one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, both last season and at the start of this one.

“He’s not put a foot wrong for three years,” Nicol said on ESPN (via TBR).

“I know he was injured at the end of last year, but before that he was the best centre-back in the Premier League, and I would argue that it’s between him and Van de Ven who’s the best this year as well.

“Van Dijk has had a decent start, but there’s no way you put him ahead of Saliba, not a chance.”

Despite those plaudits, a start on Tuesday would be just Saliba’s sixth for the national team.
