The Arsenal squad rallied around Aaron Ramsdale following Saturday’s win over Brentford, with Mikel Arteta admitting it was great to see.

Aaron Ramsdale came into the Arsenal team for David Raya at the weekend, with the on-loan Brentford goalkeeper ineligible for the Premier League clash away to his parent club.

It was an opportunity for Ramsdale to win his spot back, but he seemed nervy, almost conceding in calamitous fashion in the first-half but for an excellent goalline clearance by Declan Rice and a bit of luck with the rebound.

Ramsdale then made another error later in the half, throwing the ball down into the ground by mistake, but he rallied to ultimately keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 win.

After the full-time whistle, Arsenal fans noticed that many of the players went to Ramsdale to congratulate him on the victory.

It was a heartwarming moment, and one that manager Mikel Arteta was pleased to see.

“It’s a joy as a manager to watch this reaction,” Arteta admitted. “You’ve got the players looking out for each other, encouraging each other, showing love to each other, it doesn’t get any better than that.

“Today’s my 200th game, and when I see a team that behaves between them like that, and I see the staff’s smiles, I’m so happy and I couldn’t be prouder, and more grateful for everybody that works for us every single day to make my job so enjoyable.”

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Declan Rice arguably made the key stops of the game with a couple of goalline clearances, but Ramsdale also had his moments, particularly with a few high claims and runs off his line.

The clean sheet was a team effort, and it allowed Kai Havertz to end up as the star at the other end with a long-awaited open-play goal.
