Martin Odegaard is expected to miss Norway’s matches over the international break, but he should be fit to return afterwards, according to reports.
Leaks in the build-up to Arsenal’s match against Burnley on Saturday suggest Martin Odegaard won’t be involved for the Gunners, which tallies with a report from Norway suggesting the midfielder also won’t be fit for the international break.
Norwegian outlet TV 2 report that Odegaard’s current injury problems mean he won’t join up with the squad for their matches against the Faroe Islands and Scotland later this month.
Simon Collings reports for the Evening Standard that the decision hasn’t yet been finalised on Odegaard’s participation with Norway, and that will only happen after the Burnley game.
Collings and TV 2 both report that Odegaard’s injury is a new one sustained in training last week, unrelated to the previous hip problem that kept him out of the starting lineup against Sheffield United at the end of October.
But the good news is that Odegaard is expected to be back following the international break.
Whether or not he’s fit to play for Norway, the problem evidently isn’t serious enough to keep the Arsenal captain out of action beyond that.
Odegaard featured in all of Arsenal’s first 14 games of the season, but he’s only played 10 minutes in the last four matches, and now looks set to miss another.
Mikel Arteta would certainly welcome his captain back as soon as possible, and it appears that’s most likely after the break, away to Brentford on November 25th.
