Claims of Arsenal interest in Bayer Leverkusen Jeremie Frimpong and a £34m release clause in the player’s contract have been confirmed in a new report.

Fabrizio Romano reports that claims of a £34m release clause in Jeremie Frimpong’s deal at Bayer Leverkusen are accurate, and Romano confirms that Arsenal have scouted the player in recent times.

A transfer in June is now reportedly likely, and he won’t be short of suitors given his form and his release clause.

Sky Sports Germany recently reported that the signs were pointing towards a farewell between Frimpong and Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Frimpong will be allowed to leave Leverkusen in the summer window, and Sky claim the 22-year-old wants to move on.

Frimpong only recently extended his contract, but it seems one of the consequences of that extension was the inclusion of this new release clause.

Stefan Bienkowski reported over the summer that Arsenal were interested in Frimpong, but at the time he claimed discussions were still at a very early stage.

With Leverkusen asking for €50m+ at the time, an Arsenal move never seemed particularly likely.

Bild also reported on Arsenal’s interest in Frimpong at the time, with suggestions that Granit Xhaka’s move to Germany could help relations between the two clubs.

Perhaps the inclusion of a release clause and the player’s desire to move on could now help to progress Arsenal’s interest.

Another factor is Frimpong’s excellent recent form, with the wing-back scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 17 games in all competitions this season. It’s little wonder the top clubs are starting to circle.

For the time being, Frimpong’s form is helping Leverkusen to fight on multiple fronts.

The team are top of the Bundesliga table, only dropping points in a single draw (to Bayern Munich). They’ve won every Europa League group stage game so far, and both of their cup ties.
