Mikel Arteta has suggested it’s possible Martin Odegaard could play against Sevilla on Wednesday, following his injury absence at the weekend.

Martin Odegaard missed out on Arsenal’s match against Newcastle United at the weekend, with the club confirming that he wasn’t fit for the squad.

But whilst Mikel Arteta ruled out Gabriel Jesus featuring against Sevilla on Wednesday, he admitted: “With Martin, it’s still uncertain.”

Odegaard has already been called up by Norway for the international break later this month, but Arteta wouldn’t confirm if that means he’s definitely fit to be involved for his country.

“Martin loves to play for his country and every time that he’s been called up and been fit, he’s been there,” Arteta said. “And he will be there if that’s the case.”

As for any suggestions that Odegaard might have aggravated an injury coming on for a few minutes against West Ham United last week, Arteta was quick to play down those theories, hinting that the problem occurred in training.

“It’s no relation with what we had and what happened the day before the game against Newcastle; they are two different topics and things.”

Odegaard has been an almost ever-present member of the Arsenal squad since his permanent transfer to the club.

From his second debut for the Gunners on August 25th, 2021 until today, Odegaard has missed out on the squad a grand total of six times.

Three times were in the League Cup, once was in the Europa League, and just two of the squad absences were in the Premier League.

One of those was against Brentford last season, and the second time was against Newcastle United at the weekend.

For now, Odegaard is yet to miss a Champions League game Arsenal have been involved in, so he’ll want to avoid making Wednesday’s match his first.
