With midfielder Thomas Partey’s injury, Arsenal are reportedly shifting their January transfer strategy, focusing on midfield reinforcements instead of a new forward.

Arsenal are reassessing their transfer plans for the January window in light of midfielder Thomas Partey‘s injury.

The Ghanaian international, a key player for the Gunners, has undergone a minor treatment procedure for a thigh injury and is now in a leg brace to expedite his recovery.

However, there is uncertainty over when he will be fit to return, with expectations that he will be sidelined for the rest of the year at least.

Initially, Arsenal‘s transfer focus was on securing a new forward, with Brentford’s striker Ivan Toney being the club’s top target.

However, Partey’s prolonged absence has shifted the club’s priorities towards reinforcing the midfield.

This change in strategy arises from concerns about overburdening other players, notably Declan Rice, a £105 million summer signing, and Jorginho.

Arsenal‘s spending capacity in the upcoming transfer window is apparently constrained due to their near £200 million investment in players like Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber during the summer.

The club is mindful of staying within the Financial Fair Play (FFP) guidelines, which means operating on a tighter budget for any January signings.

David Raya, currently on loan from Brentford, is anticipated to make a permanent move to Arsenal next summer for a fee around £30 million.

In light of the current midfield challenges, Arsenal are considering postponing their pursuit of a striker until the end of the season.

There’s also the possibility that Arsenal might need to sell players to supplement their limited budget.

Furthermore, even if Partey recovers in time for January, his participation in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Ghana could further complicate matters for Arsenal, casting doubt on his availability for the tournament.
