Arsenal are one of the clubs in the race for Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt, though they face competition from other top Premier League clubs.
John Richardson reports for the Mirror that Arsenal and Newcastle United have joined long-term admirers Liverpool in the race for Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt.
The Gunners reportedly like what they’re seeing from the 27-year-old, and they’ve been tracking him for a while, though Dortmund haven’t entertained any bids for the player so far.
The Bundesliga club are reportedly unlikely to be tempted to sell in January, but a summer move would be more possible.
Arsenal have been linked with Brandt for a few years now, with David Ornstein reporting at the end of 2020 that the Gunners had already considered a move for the player at that stage.
At the time, German reporters indicated that a move in January 2021 was unlikely, with Dortmund just as unwilling to sell in the winter window then as they seem to be now.
But over two years later, there were still links between Arsenal and Brandt in the summer 2023 transfer window.
Once again, they came to nothing, with Arsenal focusing on signings in other positions. Yet the rumours persist.
It helps that Brandt has been putting in stronger performances over the last few seasons.
Back in 2020/21, when he was first linked, Brandt was going through a bit of a dip in form, only scoring four times and assisting twice that campaign.
But Brandt went on to provide 19 goal contributions in 2021/22 and 19 in 2022/23, and he’s already up to 11 in 16 games in 2023/24.
Earlier this week, Brandt netted one of Dortmund’s two goals against Newcastle United to secure a vital Champions League win.
If Arsenal are considering a new move for the German international, it’s not hard to see why.
