Arsenal star Leah Williamson was attending the Pride of Britain Awards on Sunday night, which led to a conflict with any plans she had to follow the Arsenal men’s game against Manchester City.

Williamson had to get out of her car and onto the red carpet in the 80th minute, just moments before Gabriel Martinelli scored Arsenal’s opener.

As a result, the England international learned of Arsenal’s goal thanks to an interviewer at the event.

Williamson was clearly pleased with the news, though she appeared not to believe it at first, laughing as the interviewer told her Arsenal had scored.

Once she realised the Gunners really were in the lead, Williamson’s surprise and delight were evident.

For those struggling to make it out, the interviewer then admits to being a Spurs fan, leading Williamson to jokingly apologise.

The Arsenal 26-year-old posted on her Instagram story after the game to share the video and explain that she’d had to get out of her car before the final whistle.

Williamson was recently awarded an OBE, and in an interview with Sky Sports she confirmed she’s aiming to return from her ACL injury in the New Year.

In the meantime, the lifelong Arsenal fan will be following her team from the outside with the rest of us.
