Aaron Cresswell of West Ham United addresses the team’s recent downturn, emphasising the need for collective improvement. With a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Arsenal on the horizon, the left-back believes it’s a prime opportunity for the Hammers to turn their fortunes around.

Aaron Cresswell has spoken candidly about West Ham United‘s recent downturn in form, which has resulted in three successive defeats since the October international break.

The Irons lost to Aston Villa and Olympiacos before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat against Everton at the London Stadium at the weekend.

Cresswell, who played his first Premier League minutes of the season last Sunday, believes the team needs to get back on track swiftly.

“With 10 games into the new campaign, we find ourselves in the middle of the pack,” Cresswell said. He emphasised that the side must “stick together and get through it.”

West Ham has a significant match coming up, with a Carabao Cup fourth round tie at home to Arsenal this week. Cresswell indicated that preparations would commence immediately: “The works will begin straight away on the training ground as we search for a change in our fortunes.”

During their recent match against Everton, West Ham dominated possession but failed to capitalise. The team held more than 70% of the ball in the second half but struggled to challenge Everton‘s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, until the final minutes.

Cresswell felt there was a lack of sharpness at both ends of the pitch, something Arsenal will be looking to exploit.

“It’s sloppy on our part – there’s no denying they had a couple of chances through our sloppy play, but we’ve got to put that behind us now and move forward,” he said.

He also highlighted that despite controlling the game at times, breaking down Everton’s defence proved to be a challenge: “We just couldn’t break them down in the final third. Credit to Everton, they get men behind the ball and make it difficult, and we couldn’t get through.”

Consequently, Cresswell sees the team’s upcoming match against Arsenal as an opportunity for West Ham to turn their fortunes around. “We’ve had a fantastic start to the season and have done extremely well at times. We’ve had a blip now, but we have to stay positive and stick together,” he concluded.
