Leandro Trossard is quickly becoming a key figure for Arsenal since his transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion in January.

With significant contributions in crucial matches and high praise from former Arsenal players, Trossard is knocking on the door for a more permanent spot in the starting XI.

Leandro Trossard, who joined Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion in January for €24m, is increasingly making a case for more time in the starting line-up.

The Belgian forward has scored five goals and provided 11 assists in 30 appearances for the north London club, most recently coming off the bench to score the equaliser in Arsenal‘s 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Saturday.

After the game, Trossard himself praised the team’s spirit and work ethic in their comeback from 2-0 down to claim a point at Stamford Bridge, but it is the Belgian who has been the focus of praise from ex-Arsenal man, Kieran Gibbs.

Gibbs believes that Trossard deserves to be given more opportunities in the starting XI but acknowledges that finding space for him could be a challenge.

Speaking to ESPN, Gibbs said, “I think it’s a tough one with not starting Trossard.

“Although I think he’s been unreal since he signed. And he’s kind of like the secret weapon at the moment for Arsenal.

“Martinelli is one of our most dangerous players. And obviously Saka. So it is a tough one for him.”

Gibbs further noted, “Trossard’s been knocking on the door for a while now. And so I also wouldn’t mind seeing him start in behind Jesus instead of one of the midfielders, especially with the way that Arsenal, more often than not, control games. I like him in those tight areas.”

This season, Trossard has already made a significant impact, scoring four goals and providing one assist in just eight games across all competitions. That doesn’t really tell the whole story as he is only averaging around 41 minutes per game.

Among these were key goals such as the equaliser against Chelsea and the match-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Everton.

After the Chelsea game, Trossard was full of praise for his teammates’ resilience.

“It’s really well done to the boys to not get our heads down, and keep on working,” he commented.

“That’s how you can even win games as well. We need to take that with us and focus on the next game. I’m really pleased [to score], obviously it’s nice if you can help the team with either a goal or an assist, and today, that went my way and I’m happy it gave us a point.”

Trossard also gave an insight into what changed for Arsenal in the second half against Chelsea, saying: “It’s not easy to have an explanation on that, but we just changed the gear in the second half a bit more. We played better, we were more aggressive, and you have to win your duels as well. I think we did better in the second half, and we can score goals like that.”

Trossard is hopeful of carrying the same team spirit into Arsenal‘s next Champions League match against Sevilla in Spain. “We’re going to approach that game the same way we wanted to win this game as well. It’s a Champions League game and we’re looking forward to it.”

Leandro Trossard’s impressive performances and key contributions in critical moments are making him an increasingly indispensable asset for Arsenal.

With a strong start to his Arsenal career, he is already knocking loudly on the door for a regular place in the starting line-up.
