AFC Ajax are currently a club in crisis. So often the title winners in the Netherlands, Ajax currently sit 17th in the Eredivisie table, one point off the very bottom of the league.

Having already sacked manager Maurice Steijn following last weekend’s defeat to Utrecht, the club are now on the lookout for a replacement.

Arsenal’s Albert Stuivenberg is reportedly in the mix, with Milos Gouka reporting for Dutch outlet AD on their Voetbalpodcast (via Vandaag Inside) that he sees Stuivenberg as a possible successor to Steijn.

Stuivenberg worked with Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United, and Van Gaal is currently working as an advisor to Ajax as they make their head coach decision, so that could help their chances.

Arsenal fans also noticed that Stuivenberg seemed to come over and wave to the supporters “in a way that looked like goodbye” after the Sevilla match.

There’s nothing more concrete than that in the rumours just yet, but Ajax are certainly in need of the help and Stuivenberg seems to have done a great job at Arsenal.

When Mikel Arteta initially took over at Arsenal, he had Steve Round and Stuivenberg working alongside him as assistants.

Round departed the club over the summer, and Stuivenberg could now follow suit.

It wouldn’t be Stuivenberg’s first head coach job in senior football, as he previously held the position with Genk. But it would certainly be his biggest job so far.
