Arsenal have received four call-ups for Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, with Bukayo Saka a somewhat surprising inclusion.
Gareth Southgate named his England squad for the October international break on Thursday afternoon, and there were no shortage of Arsenal players involved.
As expected, Aaron Ramsdale and Declan Rice were in the squad, and Eddie Nketiah received another call-up after his time with the team in September.
But Bukayo Saka was another surprise inclusion, despite another injury knock at the weekend.
With the game against Manchester City at the weekend, Arsenal fans are understandably eager for any potential injury update on Saka ahead of the match.
Unfortunately, Southgate didn’t have many details to share in his press conference.
“He’s still being assessed, obviously they’ve got a big game this weekend, and then there’s another seven days before we play Australia and 10 days before we play Italy,” Southgate said.
“Everybody will monitor everything as we go forward.”
It would be a big boost for Arsenal if Saka has avoided injury, but he’s now been withdrawn early – and usually limping – in the team’s last three matches.
Arsenal fans likely won’t be too pleased to see the 22-year-old involved in the England squad in those circumstances, but it underlines the importance he has to his club and his country right now.
As for Nketiah, he’ll be hoping to make his debut for England this time around.
