Bukayo Saka has been cleared to play against Manchester City this weekend, despite coming off with an injury in midweek.
Sami Mokbel and Isaan Khan report for the Daily Mail that Bukayo Saka has been cleared to play for Arsenal against Manchester City on Sunday, after he was withdrawn in the first half of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against RC Lens.
The winger is now reportedly set to face Manchester City, and the FA are considering a compromise for his involvement over the international break.
Saka may now be rested for the friendly match against Australia on Friday, before coming back into the team for the Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy on Tuesday.
If Saka plays for Arsenal against City before resting on international duty against Australia, many Gunners fans would likely consider that the ideal outcome.
It’s clear the winger needs a rest, but Arsenal also desperately need him to have their best shot at a win on Sunday.
But it’s unlikely Gareth Southgate would give Saka the entire break off, as the game against Italy could be a vital one for England’s Euro 2024 qualification hopes.
Mikel Arteta had stayed relatively tight-lipped on Saka during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“In contention, that’s it,” Arteta said of Saka’s fitness. “I’m not a doctor. That’s what they told me.
“I have spoken to Gareth (Southgate) on several occasions. But I have to do my job, I give him the news.
“We have really good communication and he needs to make the best decision as well for the national team and I’m not going to get involved there.”
