Nigel Reo-Coker thinks Arsenal’s comeback from 2-0 down against Chelsea shows the Gunners are real title contenders again this season.

Up until the final 15 minutes, Arsenal’s performance against Chelsea at the weekend would have had many onlookers wondering whether Mikel Arteta’s side were really up for the challenge of another Premier League title race.

The Gunners were largely poor, particularly in the first half, despite a mini-revival immediately following Chelsea’s second goal and the fortunate nature of the Blues’ lead.

Yet Arsenal made a comeback for 2-2, and ex-Premier League midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker believes that’s a sign of their potential to compete at the top again.

“Arsenal are serious title contenders,” Reo-Coker said.

“When I reflect on that game and what I saw with Chelsea pretty much dominating 70% of the game, the old Arsenal would have gone on to lose.

“Without playing great and, with just the few tactical changes and substitutions Arteta made, to come back and get a point out of a game they were completely being destroyed was impressive.

“I think that’s probably one of the most fascinating things from this weekend to say Arsenal really are true title contenders.

“I don’t think it’s City’s to run away with and everyone else trying to catch City, I just think now you have to look at Arsenal and take them very seriously.”

It’s certainly good to continue picking up points even when things don’t seem to be going your way, and Arsenal remain unbeaten as we prepare to reach the 10th game of the season.

But with some tough games coming up, including a trip to St. James’ Park at the start of November, Arsenal need to show more than just grit to prove they’re potential title winners.
