David Raya was only playing his sixth game for Arsenal over the weekend, but he kept his fourth clean sheet for the Gunners as they took all three points from the contest.

Speaking after the game, the Spanish goalkeeper insisted the home support helped to drive the team on to victory.

“It’s incredible, it’s amazing, it’s one of the best stadiums in the world in my opinion, and having the fans behind us is incredible,” Raya said.

“Home and away, we always need them, and they give us the extra edge, the extra energy, the extra gear that we need sometimes.

“The fans are top, it’s incredible to play for this football club.”

When Martinelli scored the winner, Raya turned to the fans and celebrated with them, jumping up and down and pumping his fists.

The goalkeeper believes it was an “incredible” moment, and one the side had earned with their performance.

“[The winning goal] was something incredible and we feel a lot of relief as well,” Raya admitted.

“We were winning every single duel and creating chances, we were threatening them, so seeing that goal hitting the back of the net was amazing, and fair play to the players, to the club, to the staff that we were on top today.”

Raya had come in for some criticism during the first half of the match, as Manchester City tried to force mistakes in his attempts to play out from the back.

There was one heart-in-mouth moment where Julian Alvarez almost turned in an attempted clearance from the goalkeeper.

But Raya stuck at it, and Arsenal eventually got their rewards, with Mikel Arteta praising his new shot-stopper for following the game plan.

“I asked him to do that, especially against this team, you just have to do other things and you get in big trouble,” Arteta said.

“I think he was excellent, the way he dominated his box, the way he came out for crosses and set-pieces, the height that he played at. He’s got big ones, because the crowd go like this with the players.

“I’ve seen it, the players start to kick balls everywhere and I said to him, you don’t do that, make sure you don’t do it, and he didn’t do it.

“At the end, he got rewarded because the team started the game that we wanted to play much better, so a big compliment to him.”
