Arthur Okonkwo kept another clean sheet for Wrexham against Notts County at the weekend, and it was arguably the most important of his loan so far.

Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is on loan with Wrexham in League Two this season, playing under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and he racked up his fourth clean sheet in eight appearances at the weekend.

Though Wrexham have been on an unbeaten run since Okonkwo’s debut, with five wins and three draws in his eight appearances, they’d gone a few games without a clean sheet before the weekend.

But if there was a time to get one, it was against Saturday’s opponents Notts County.

Notts County were promoted to League Two alongside Wrexham last season, but the two teams have shown early signs that they’re promotion contenders again this campaign.

Saturday’s hosts were second and three points clear of Wrexham going into the game, so only a win would have been enough to draw them level, and the away side needed their goalkeeper to achieve it.

In a game of plenty of opportunities, Notts County had 16 shots and six on target, whilst Wrexham had 15 with eight on target. But whilst Wrexham scored twice, Notts County drew a blank.

Many of Okonkwo’s saves were pretty comfortable, but he did have to make one diving effort from former Premier League striker David McGoldrick.

The goalkeeper then had his part to play in Wrexham’s second goal, with his long ball finding Paul Mullin, who squared to Ollie Palmer to score.

Okonkwo joined Wrexham as they sat 13th in League Two, but they’re now in the promotion places.

Sitting third at the time of writing, only goals scored are keeping Wrexham out of the top two, albeit with two of the clubs on their tail having games in hand to catch up.

If Okonkwo can keep up his excellent clean sheet record over the last season and a half, Wrexham could be in line to go up the divisions again next summer.
