Arsenal’s Arthur Okonkwo has gone out on loan to Wrexham AFC this season, where he’s primarily competing with veteran goalkeeper Mark Howard – who also played for the Gunners as a young player.

After breaking into the team recently, Okonkwo appeared with Howard on the latter’s podcast, in which Howard had some praise for his rival.

“How tall are you?” Howard asked (via Goal).

“I am six foot six,” Okonkwo replied.

“Now, while we’re on this, can we speak about your jump test because you’re a freak mate,” Howard continued. “We were getting you to do this in the gym the other day and it wasn’t fun, you’re a cheat code in yourself, mate.”

When Okonkwo first joined Wrexham, it initially looked like he might struggle to get consistent minutes.

The goalkeeper quickly made his debut in the EFL Trophy, keeping a clean sheet, but he was then on the bench for the following three matches in League Two.

But the Arsenal man then broke into the league team, and he’s now played their last five matches, putting in some good performances along the way.

“The manager’s really looked after me well,” Okonkwo said. “When I first arrived he said ‘Look, we’re going to take it easy, not rush you in too quickly, get you used to the squad’.

“I have full trust in the manager and he’s brought me in, slowly, and it’s worked until now.”

That mutual trust appears to be being repaid on a weekly basis, with Okonkwo continuing to get games and earning his team results.
