In a post-match interview, Martinelli not only expressed immense satisfaction with his performance but also lauded his teammate Gabriel Jesus for his significant role in the match.

Gabriel Martinelli was sidelined from the opening matches of the group stage due to a hamstring injury but marked his return with a vital goal in a 2-1 win against Sevilla.

Martinelli said his performance surpassed even his own expectations. He remarked, “Last night I was just in bed thinking about this moment and how it could be, and how I wanted it to be. It couldn’t be better.”

His goal came in the final moments of the first half, following a pass from teammate Gabriel Jesus.

The goal was especially satisfying for Martinelli as he had missed a similar opportunity earlier.

Jesus, who also scored in the match, was lauded by Martinelli for his significant contribution.

Speaking about the collaboration between them, Martinelli noted, “Big Gabi made the clearance to the other Gabi, and then he was amazing with a nice skill and played it to me.

“I just waited for the keeper, looked at him, and I thought I couldn’t miss it again. It was good I scored.”

Martinelli also emphasised Jesus’s broader influence, describing him as an essential figure both for the team and for himself. “The guy is unbelievable, I’ve said it many times, he is so good and I love to play with him. He is a big player, he has played in the World Cup, Champions League, and big games in his career, so he helps us a lot,” he said.
