Lucas Torreira’s move to Galatasaray in the summer of 2022 was noteworthy, not least because of the significant bargain the Turks landed.

Torreira was transferred for just €6m, a sharp contrast to the €28.65m Arsenal paid for him in 2018.

The 27-year-old Uruguayan has since become a key figure for Galatasaray’s manager, Okan Buruk, with an excellent last season that included 34 appearances, one assist, and a league title.

Now, reports in Spain suggest that an official offer is being prepared for Torreira for a January move.

Arsenal likely have a hefty sell-on clause in the deal, potentially as high as 25%, given Torreira was valued at €20m at the time of his sale to Galatasaray.

Torreira began his footballing journey at Montevideo Wanderers’ youth team, before moving on to Pescara, Sampdoria, Atletico Madrid, and Fiorentina.

Over his career, he has accumulated 40 caps for the Uruguayan National Team, and his trophy cabinet boasts 1 La Liga, 1 English FA Cup, 1 English Community Shield and 1 Super League championship.
