Earlier this year, Arsenal confirmed that talented young midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly had signed a scholarship deal with the club, joining a group of 13 new first-year scholars in the academy system.

But just three months later, Lewis-Skelly has signed another new deal, putting pen to paper on his first professional contract with Arsenal.

Lewis-Skelly turned 17 at the end of September, making him eligible for professional terms, and Arsenal have wasted no time in handing him that deal.

A player’s first professional contract can only last for a maximum of three seasons, so whilst Arsenal haven’t confirmed the deal’s length, Lewis-Skelly’s contract likely lasts until 2026.

“It feels amazing,” Lewis-Skelly said of the new deal. “I’m so delighted because, since I was a boy, I’ve been dreaming of this moment right here.

“To say that I’m a professional football player now is a dream come true for me and I just want to thank all the staff and all my family that come to support me.

“For the support around me, I couldn’t be any more grateful.

“I’m so happy that the club has shown this faith in me. I think that I’ve put in the work as well, so it’s good to see the club putting the faith in me.”

Lewis-Skelly has been at Arsenal since he was nine, and he’s now hoping to progress through into the senior side.

“It means the world to me, my boyhood club ever since I can remember,” the teenager admitted. “To play for Arsenal, I’m truly speechless.

“I know it will be quite tough but the next objective is to break through to the first team. I believe that my ability and mindset can really distinguish me from the rest.

“Hopefully, if they give me opportunities, I can take them and keep working, keep my head down, and hopefully the results can take care of themselves.”

Lewis-Skelly has started the new season playing for the u21s, and he missed the last couple of games with an apparent injury setback.

But when he’s back to full fitness, there’s no reason he can’t eventually start knocking on the door of the first team.
