Jorginho about the magic of the Champions League anthem at Arsenal.

In his pre-Sevilla press conference, Jorginho expressed his reverence for the iconic Champions League anthem, reflecting on its emotional impact at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

The Italian player shared insights into the anthem’s nostalgic power and its significant role in European football, as Arsenal returned to the Champions League competition.

As the Champions League anthem resounded through the Emirates Stadium last month, it marked a much-anticipated return for Arsenal, bringing with it a wave of nostalgia and excitement.

For the younger generation of Arsenal fans and players, the anthem stirred emotions and felt like an invitation to one of the grandest stages in club football.

Seasoned veteran Jorginho elaborated on the magic encapsulated within those musical notes. “It’s iconic, it’s so remarkable. It was stuck in our heads when we were kids so you just kind of go back to your childhood when you listen to it,” he said.

For Jorginho, who has a Champions League trophy tattooed on his right tricep, these feelings are no different from when he was in the shoes of Arsenal’s young talents like Leandro Trossard, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.

He recalled his own Champions League debut with Napoli in 2014 and how the anthem then had evoked the same sense of grandeur and childhood dreams.

This powerful sentiment also resonated in the squad as they prepared for their match against PSV Eindhoven. “They couldn’t wait any more,” Jorginho said about the mood during training.

Jorginho’s accolade includes winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, a feat that he states is a culmination of many childhood ambitions. “When you hold that trophy, so, so many things are going through your head,” he explained, “It’s impossible to explain, it’s just an amazing feeling.”

As someone who has lifted the Champions League trophy, Jorginho offered his perspectives on what makes a successful squad. “For sure you need togetherness, as well as passion and belief in each other,” he commented. According to him, these are qualities that are present within the current Arsenal set-up, drawing parallels between his winning Chelsea squad and Arsenal’s current team.

“Togetherness is something that is really important for every team. That’s when something special can happen,” he emphasised, thereby offering not just a view into his own emotions but a window into the collective psyche of a team striving for European success.

Closing on a light note, Jorginho mused on the possibility of adding another Champions League trophy to his collection and consequently another tattoo to commemorate it. “Maybe I can add the dates!” he laughed.

Whether it is lifting trophies or listening to an anthem that has the power to transport a listener back to their childhood, Jorginho’s insights paint a vivid picture of what makes the Champions League truly special.

And for Arsenal, this adds another layer of meaning to their current campaign in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
