Gabriel Jesus is set to make a start for Brazil in their World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in midweek, with Richarlison dropped to the bench.
Globo Esporte report that there will be a few changes from the Brazil team that faced Venezuela when they take on Uruguay on Tuesday night (or Wednesday morning at 01:00 UK time).
Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes is set to keep his place, but the Brazilian outlet claim the latest training sessions have involved head coach Fernando Diniz using Gabriel Jesus as a starter over Richarlison.
Richarlison’s stock with Brazil was probably at its highest after the first few games of the World Cup, when he scored against Serbia and South Korea.
But he then blanked as Brazil were eliminated by Croatia, and since then he has no goals or assists in five games.
Combine that with Richarlison’s Spurs record, with just five goals and six assists in 44 matches since signing. It’s not exactly what you want from a starting forward.
Jesus has had injury problems with Arsenal over the last year, but he has twice as many goals (14) and assists (eight) as Richarlison, and it looks like he’s now set to get his chance back in the Brazil team.
