Rob Holding believes Mikel Arteta is “a hell of a manager”, and Arsenal are in a good position for another Premier League title charge.

Rob Holding left Arsenal for Crystal Palace over the summer, but it’s clear the defender still holds former manager Mikel Arteta in high regard.

Speaking to the media over the international break, Holding suggested Arteta sees football in a unique way, and Arsenal have the potential to continue to push on with the Spaniard at the helm.

“With Arteta now they’ve got a hell of a manager who’s going to go on to do great things,” Holding said.

“His tactical awareness and how he sees the game is incredible. I didn’t realise how much I didn’t know about football until I’d been in a meeting with him a few times and you start to think that he sees football differently to how anyone has seen it in the world around me.

“The way they’ve started the season I’m sure they can carry on and go for another title charge.”

Holding joined Palace on deadline day at the start of September, which was too late to make the squad against Wolves that weekend.

He’s been named in all five Palace squads since, but he’s yet to play a Premier League minute since the move, making his only appearance in a 3-0 League Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Palace have also had a very good defensive record lately, keeping clean sheets in three Premier League games in a row.

When the centre-back completed his £3.5m move to Palace over the summer, only around £1m of that fee was a guaranteed payment, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The remaining £2.5m were add-on payments. Assuming those were linked to appearances, as is often the case, Holding doesn’t currently look likely to hit his targets.

But it’s very early on in Holding’s Palace career, and perhaps the situation will change as the season progresses.
