Gabriel Magalhaes scored his first goal for Brazil in their latest World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, as they kicked off their international break.
Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes first received a call-up to the Brazil national team in late 2021, but it took until September of this year for him to make his first appearance for the side.
Two games later, the centre-back now has his first goal in Brazil colours.
Playing against Venezuela in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday, Gabriel got on the end of a Neymar corner before powering a header into the net for 1-0.
Brazil had been struggling to make the breakthrough, with Spurs striker Richarlison taking no shots and creating no chances, but his north London rival provided the opening goal.
The lead didn’t last the full 90, however, with Venezuela substitute Eduard Bello scoring an audacious overhead kick to equalise with just over five minutes left.
Gabriel Jesus also made a positive appearance as a second-half substitute, but Brazil had to settle for a draw.
As a result, Argentina have taken Brazil’s spot at the top of the qualification group, as the only team to win all of their three qualifiers so far.
