The reasoning behind Fabio Vieira’s goal celebration has been revealed, with the player confirming the birth of his son.
Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira came off the bench for the Gunners on Saturday to score their fourth goal of the game against Sheffield United.
Vieira won a penalty for Mikel Arteta’s side, awarded with the help of VAR, and he stepped up to convert it himself.
Yet it was Vieira’s celebration generating some speculation, with the Portuguese 23-year-old putting the ball under his shirt and sucking his thumb.
Vieira’s latest Instagram post has now confirmed the rumours, announcing the birth of his baby boy with his partner Carina Raquel.

Vieira called the event the “best day of our lives”, sharing a photo of himself and his partner holding the hand of their new arrival.
For the most part, it’s been a very positive few months for Vieira.
The midfielder scored the winning penalty against Manchester City in the Community Shield, won praise for his contributions against Fulham and Manchester United, and now has his first goal of the campaign on the same weekend as the birth of his child.
It hasn’t all been plain sailing, with Vieira suffering a minor injury that kept him out of the League Cup match against Brentford. He was also seemingly just dropped from the squad against Chelsea last weekend.
But right now, the former Porto man will surely be back feeling like he’s on top of the world.
