Chelsea are reportedly contemplating a January bid for Arsenal’s goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, amid challenges faced by their current goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

The move seems unlikely to be successful with Arsenal having no decent backup without Ramsdale.

Chelsea are considering making a January bid for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to reports.

It is claimed that Ramsdale, who has been a substitute since the arrival of David Raya, may be open to a move in search of first-team football.

This news comes amid challenges faced by Chelsea’s current goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, who was acquired from Brighton in the summer.

Mikel Arteta has put his faith in David Raya as the first-choice goalkeeper, starting him in all six recent Premier League matches.

Raya’s tenure has seen mixed performances, conceding six goals in those games. Despite this, Arteta has shown no signs of altering his current selection.

“Despite Arteta claiming he would rotate his two goalies, Raya has started all six Premier League games since coming into replace Ramsdale,” stated a source close to the club.

On the flip side, Aaron Ramsdale has been on the bench since being dropped for Arsenal’s match against Manchester United last month.

The player could potentially seek opportunities elsewhere as he aims to retain his place in the England squad ahead of next summer’s European Championships.

CBS sports journalist Ben Jacobs indicated that Chelsea might be interested in securing Ramsdale’s services this coming January.

This development has a backdrop of Robert Sanchez’s underwhelming form since his move from Brighton to Chelsea.

His recent performance included a blunder leading to a goal from Declan Rice in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Chelsea, therefore, may be compelled to look for alternatives, and Ramsdale has emerged as a plausible option.

However, persuading Arsenal to release Ramsdale, especially to a rival London club in the middle of the season, could be a tall order.

Additionally, the absence of Champions League football at Chelsea this season might also deter Ramsdale from making a move to west London.

Ramsdale, who was part of Gareth Southgate’s last England squad, would have to compete with other goalkeepers like Sam Johnstone and Nick Pope for a place in the final three for next summer’s European Championships, behind current number one Jordan Pickford.

As of now, Ramsdale is expected to remain on the bench as Arsenal face Sevilla in the Champions League Group B match.
