Arsenal handed Sheffield United a crushing 5-0 defeat on Saturday, a loss that sees the Blades record the worst start to a Premier League season ever – again.

Under the management of Paul Heckingbottom, the club has now secured only one point with a concerning goal difference of minus 22 in their first 10 matches.

Sheffield United’s Premier League season continues to get worse after a 5-0 loss to Arsenal on Saturday, solidifying their status as the side with the worst start to a Premier League campaign in history.

Eddie Nketiah scored a hat-trick, compounding problems for Paul Heckingbottom‘s team who have mustered just one point from their initial 10 games.

The club has also accumulated a goal difference of minus 22, eclipsing their disastrous performance in the 20/21 which ended in relegation by 16 points.

They’ve notched up just seven goals and conceded 29, their sole point arising from a 2-2 draw against Everton in early September.

Paul Heckingbottom vocalised his frustrations before the game at the Emirates, stating his squad had “worked hard on their shape”.

Despite their efforts, they face an uphill battle with upcoming fixtures against Wolves, Brighton, Bournemouth, and Burnley.

Decisions are pending from the owners on whether to retain Heckingbottom, particularly as former manager Chris Wilder has been rumoured for a return.

Only one Premier League team has ever accrued one point or fewer in their first 10 games, Sheffield United, who have now done it twice.

When it comes to the match against Arsenal, Sheffield United managed a near-negligible 0.03xG from their two attempts on goal, ranking as the fourth-lowest expected goals in the Premier League since the 2017/18 season kicked off. You can read more stats from the game here.

Currently, Sheffield United sit in 20th place, already five points from safety.
