Aaron Ramsdale has earned the rather peculiar title of “f***ing weird” from his former teammate, Matt Turner.

Aaron Ramsdale, the Arsenal and England goalkeeper, has been described as “f***ing weird” by his former teammate Matt Turner, who now plays for Nottingham Forest.

The two were teammates at Arsenal before Turner moved on over the summer.

While Turner described himself as perhaps the most “normal” goalkeeper, he reserved the title of ‘weirdest’ for Ramsdale and Bobby Shuttleworth, a goalkeeper from his Major League Soccer days.

“I think probably I’m the most normal goalkeeper out there. I actually believe that,” Turner told CBS Sports.

“The weirdest? Either Bobby Shuttleworth, he was the first goalie I ever saw and was like, oh my god that guy’s crazy, or Aaron Ramsdale, he’s also bananas, that guy.

“He’s f***ing weird, but I love him. He’s just eccentric. He’s got little bits of flair in his game. He’s very opposite from me in that sense, on and off the field. Maybe because I’m so normal, that makes me weird.”

Once the first choice between the sticks during Matt Turner’s time at Arsenal, Aaron Ramsdale is now vying for a spot in the starting eleven alongside new recruit David Raya.

After relinquishing his starting role to Raya, Ramsdale made a comeback during the League Cup victory over Brentford. The performance earned him high praise from Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager.

“For sure, he’s been exceptional around the place – and especially with the situation,” said Arteta. “We love him, for sure. We know his character and what he brings to the team and we are happy to have him. Every player is very important. Today he had the opportunity to play and he had a really good game.”

Raya started for Arsenal in the recent 2-1 Champions League defeat to Lens, making an error leading to the French side’s first goal.

Arteta brushed it off, stating, “This happens. Mistakes are part of football. They will continue to be there somehow.”

While Ramsdale may have been described as ‘weird’ by a former teammate, his eccentricities have not detracted from his abilities or his standing within the team.

In a squad where every player is deemed “very important” by the manager, Ramsdale’s unique characteristics appear to add value rather than detract from it.
