A number of Arsenal players were involved as Ukraine took on England on Saturday, with Oleksandr Zinchenko starting for the hosts and Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka in Gareth Southgate’s lineup.

Aaron Ramsdale made the bench for Southgate’s side, whilst there was no place for Eddie Nketiah on this occasion. He’ll hope to get a chance in the upcoming friendly against Scotland.

Yet for all the England call-ups, it was the Arsenal man in the Ukraine side making the difference early on.

In the 25th minute, Zinchenko raced into the penalty area to get on the end of a cutback from Yukhym Konoplia, passing the ball into the net for 1-0.

The lead didn’t last, with Kyle Walker equalising before the end of the first half. But Ukraine managed to hold on for the point, despite Zinchenko’s goal being the only shot they had on target all match.

With Italy dropping points in a shock draw with North Macedonia, Ukraine remain in the qualification spots for Euro 2024 as it stands.

England are still the runaway leaders of the group, but the second spot is certainly up for grabs right now.

Ukraine face Italy away from home on Tuesday, September 12th at 19:45 BST. A result in that game would put them in an excellent position to push on and qualify, but a defeat would put Italy back in control.
