Granit Xhaka, former Arsenal captain, and now with Bayer Leverkusen, faced a challenging task: marking Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

Unfortunately for Xhaka, a lapse in concentration during a set-piece allowed Kane to continue his goal-scoring spree.

The early minutes of the game saw Bayern Munich capitalise on a corner kick. While the ball was in play, Xhaka, tasked with guarding Kane, momentarily lost sight of his mark.

This error allowed the English striker to head the ball into the net, marking his 300th club career goal and his fourth in four since freeing himself from Tottenham in the summer.

Despite the setback caused by Xhaka’s error, Bayer Leverkusen displayed resilience. Shortly after conceding, they responded when Alex Grimaldo struck a brilliant free-kick into the top corner, drawing them level.

The game saw its fair share of dramatic moments.

With the scores level, Bayern made some tactical changes, subbing out Kane for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as they searched for a winner.

Just when Bayern thought they had secured victory through Leon Goretzka’s strike, VAR threw in a twist. A penalty, deemed soft by many, was awarded against Bayern’s Alphonse Davies.

Exequiel Palacios stepped up and made no mistake, making it 2-2, a result that both teams would have to settle for.

Both Xhaka and Kane are adapting to new challenges in the Bundesliga. While Xhaka will be keen to shake off this mistake and continue contributing to Leverkusen, Kane’s strong form at Bayern Munich promises many more goals.

The English striker’s next big test is in the Champions League, where Bayern will go head-to-head with Manchester United.
