Leandro Trossard was an unexpected absentee from Arsenal’s squad to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, after picking up an injury.

Following Gabriel Martinelli’s injury, it was expected that Leandro Trossard would step in for the north London derby over the weekend.

But when the squad was released, Trossard wasn’t in it, with Arsenal confirming that he was missing out due to a “slight muscle issue”.

Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail reports that Trossard limped out of training earlier in the week, complaining of tightness towards the bottom of his hamstring or the back of his knee.

The player has already had a scan, but the severity was still unclear on Sunday afternoon.

It would be a blow to lose Trossard for any significant length of time, as he’s in good form and he can cover a few positions in the current Arsenal team.

We saw last season that Trossard can play the centre-forward role if Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are both out, but he’s also capable of playing on the left wing, or as an advanced left-sided central midfielder.

Arsenal haven’t had much luck on the injury front lately, so it feels like we’re due some positive news on Trossard when all the assessments are complete.

Arsenal face Brentford on Wednesday in the League Cup at 19:45 BST. You’d imagine if there’s any chance of aggravating Trossard’s issue, Mikel Arteta won’t take that risk for a League Cup game.
