Leandro Trossard put in a strong performance in midfield in Belgium’s win over Azerbaijan on Saturday, amid discussions over his limited Arsenal minutes.

Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard hasn’t been a regular for the Gunners in the early weeks of the season, but he played well in a start for Belgium this weekend to kick off their international break.

Trossard was unlucky not to score, hitting the woodwork, but he also created two chances and won six of his seven individual ground duels, as well as earning three free kicks.

More intriguingly, the Arsenal man was playing in a left-central-midfield role, a position he may well have more luck breaking into with the Gunners given Kai Havertz’s mixed start to the season.

Despite scoring four times in pre-season, including in the Community Shield win over Manchester City, Trossard has made one league start in the opening four games for Arsenal, at home to Fulham, and he was withdrawn at half-time of the contest.

In total, the Belgian international has managed 62 minutes on the field.

Belgian outlet Het Belang van Limburg spoke to Trossard’s entourage about the situation earlier this week, and they claim he isn’t panicking.

“The next few months will be super busy, with three matches a week, in the league, the FA Cup, and the Champions League, he will get his chances,” a representative of Trossard’s camp said (via Sport Witness).

You’d certainly imagine that will be true. With Arsenal fighting in the league, the League Cup, and the Champions League for the next few months, Mikel Arteta will need to utilise his full squad to avoid overworking anyone.

If the Gunners are still in all three competitions come January, then the FA Cup will be added into the mix to make things even more congested.

With Trossard performing so well when given the chance for club and country, with the exception of that Fulham game, he should be capable of making an impact over the next few months. He’ll hope he can give Arteta a decision to make.
