Aaron Ramsdale’s father has hit out at Jamie Carragher following the pundit’s latest round of comments putting down the goalkeeper.

After David Raya’s excellent save to deny Tottenham Hotspur a goal at the weekend, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale could be seen applauding the stop from the crowd.

It was a nice gesture from Arsenal’s number one, who has had to deal with losing his place in the side this week.

Yet Jamie Carragher took the opportunity to mock Ramsdale on Sky Sports, saying: “I thought I was at the Oscars, you know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person.

“I was laughing when I saw that. He’s absolutely devastated really.”

The comments come just days after Carragher told the media: “Arsenal will never win the Premier League with Ramsdale in goal, no chance.

“Ramsdale is playing for Arsenal and he can’t even get in the England team.”

Ramsdale’s father, Nick, was clearly unhappy with the latest comments. He responded on Twitter by saying: “You are a disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has.”

Stephen Warnock also empathised with Ramsdale, speaking to Sky Sports the next day.

“[Aaron] Ramsdale’s in a horrible position because if he sits there and sulks everyone has a go at him, if he claps he’s being sarcastic,” Warnock said. “What is the right thing for him to do?”

The comments from Carragher about whether Ramsdale is good enough for a title-winning team are expected. He’s a pundit on various TV channels, he’s going to give his opinion, even if it’s critical.

But to then go on and mock the goalkeeper for trying to support his teammate seems unnecessary, especially when you’ve already made those public criticisms.

Thankfully, Ramsdale has his dad to back him up on this one.
