Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Aaron Ramsdale could make his return to the Arsenal team against Brentford on Wednesday night, as the two teams face off in the League Cup.

But that’s reportedly not a sign of things to come, with Mokbel adding that it appears increasingly clear that David Raya is heading towards becoming Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper for the season.

The same source adds that this could prove problematic for Ramsdale’s chances with England, and there may be questions over his spot in the squad if he isn’t playing regularly.

Raya has started Arsenal’s last three games, keeping clean sheets against Everton and PSV Eindhoven before featuring in a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

After Raya’s excellent save to initially deny Spurs an opening goal at the weekend, Ramsdale could be seen applauding the stop from the crowd.

It was a nice gesture from Arsenal’s official number one, dealing with losing his place in the side this week.

Stephen Warnock empathised with Ramsdale, speaking to Sky Sports the next day.

“[Aaron] Ramsdale’s in a horrible position because if he sits there and sulks everyone has a go at him, if he claps he’s being sarcastic,” Warnock said. “What is the right thing for him to do?”

But Ramsdale himself appears to staying positive, sharing pictures of himself on Instagram celebrating goals with his teammates.
