Trabzonspor are yet to officially confirm the signing of Nicolas Pepe, but the winger has already terminated his contract at Arsenal.
Earlier this week, Turkish side Trabzonspor posted a picture of Nicolas Pepe wearing their shirt, as he caught a flight to the country.
“I came here to become a champion and achieve success,” Pepe said in a video on Trabzonspor’s social media pages.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Pepe would be holding his medical on Friday morning, ahead of signing a short-term deal with Trabzonspor to June 2024.
Yet Trabzonspor are still to announce the transfer, a few days later.
However, Arsenal have confirmed that Pepe’s contract has been terminated, so it should just be a matter of time until Trabzonspor also confirm the move.
GFFN report that Pepe was identified as surplus to requirements in the early days of Mikel Arteta’s spell at Arsenal, and that never changed over the following few years.
Now he’s leaving the club on a free transfer. Hopefully, we’ll get some clarity on the details when the move is officially confirmed by Trabzonspor.
Pepe spent the 2022/23 campaign out on loan with OGC Nice, but an underwhelming and injury-hit campaign didn’t generate the kind of interest Arsenal would have hoped for.
The 28-year-old made 28 appearances for Nice, scoring eight goals, but he only played three times in Ligue 1 from January 16th to the end of the season due to injury.
The first step with his new club will be just to get playing again regularly.
