Nicolas Pepe is holding a medical today in Paris ahead of a move to Besiktas, finally accepting the transfer after the closure of the British transfer window.
L’Equipe report that Nicolas Pepe is having a medical in Paris on Monday prior to his move to Besiktas.
The French outlet claim Pepe had previously refused an offer from the Turkish club, but he’s ended up accepting in the last few hours.
The British transfer window closed on September 1st, meaning Premier League clubs can no longer register new players until the January window opens.
But other leagues have later dates for the closure of their windows, and the Turkish league is one of those. As a result, Besiktas are still able to sign new players for a few more days.
Earlier in the window, Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport had reported that Besiktas had made a three-year contract offer to Pepe, which the winger was reflecting on.
Pepe has a year left on his Arsenal deal, and the Gunners were deciding whether they were willing to let him leave for free or not.
It’s not clear what Arsenal ended up deciding on that front, but if there is a transfer fee for the winger, it hasn’t been reported in the media yet.
Pepe originally turned down that offer anyway, but he now seems to have had a change of heart.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Germany had reportedly looked into the transfer in the wake of the Besiktas move appearing to fall through, and Pepe returned to Arsenal to rejoin training for a brief spell.
In the end, a departure to Turkey seems like the eventual outcome of a long summer of speculation.
