Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is happy with how Arthur Okonkwo is settling with the club, with the goalkeeper impressing on his debut.

After speculation about a permanent transfer earlier in the summer, Arthur Okonkwo ended up making a deadline-day loan move to League Two side Wrexham for the season.

The goalkeeper was quickly involved for his new side in the EFL Trophy, making a start and keeping a clean sheet against the Newcastle United u21s.

After that game, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson suggested Okonkwo and fellow new signing George Evans were adjusting well to life with the club.

“They’ve [George Evans and Arthur Okonkwo] settled well, and I chatted with both of them this morning to discuss various things and that they were settling in okay,” Parkinson said.

“It’s so important in particular for Arthur because he is moving up from London and he’s got his accommodation sorted now which is great.

“The quicker we can get players settled, the more beneficial it is for us as a club.”

Whilst he’s already made his debut, it seems Okonkwo has a fight on his hands to make himself a starter in the league.

36-year-old Mark Howard (also formerly of Arsenal, many years ago) started Wrexham’s League Two match against Doncaster Rovers this weekend, and he appears to have the spot in the first-choice lineup right now.

It remains to be seen whether Okonkwo will be given a chance in league football in the near future.

If not, Okonkwo’s next chance to impress would be a month from now.

Wrexham face Okonkwo’s former loan club Crewe Alexandra in their next EFL Trophy match on October 10th, having already been knocked out of the League Cup and with the FA Cup not set to kick off until later in the year.
