Martin Odegaard showed exactly why he’s the ideal Arsenal captain in a few touching incidents after the Gunners’ win over Brentford on Wednesday night.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard was initially rested as Mikel Arteta’s side prepared to take on Brentford in their League Cup third-round clash on Wednesday, but the Norwegian international came on with eight minutes left to see out the victory.
Completing a few passes and having a shot blocked, Odegaard achieved that goal, with Arsenal winning the match 1-0.
But it was what happened afterwards that was particularly endearing to the club’s supporters.
As well as Odegaard, Mohamed Elneny had come on for the final eight minutes of the match, playing his first minutes after injury.
When the game was over, Odegaard pushed Elneny towards the Arsenal fans to receive a round of applause, before waving the fans to cheer louder.
Odegaard then did the same with youngster Charles Sagoe Jr., who was making his debut for the team.
Finally, Odegaard went over to the away end and handed over his shirt to an excited young fan.
All three incidents can be seen in the below fan footage, albeit not in chronological order.

In those few incidents, Odegaard helped to cap off a great night for Elneny and Sagoe Jr., and he gave a young supporter a moment they’ll probably never forget.
It’s just what you want from your on-field representative of the club.
