Vivianne Miedema has started training with the Arsenal squad again, and she’s preparing to play for the academy as she steps up her recovery from injury.

Vivianne Miedema has been out of action with the Arsenal Women since last December, when she was stretchered off with a serious knee injury.

The Dutch international has been working on her recovery ever since, and she finally appears ready for her comeback now.

“After months of rehabilitation after my serious knee injury, I am now training with the selection at Arsenal again,” Miedema revealed (via Sport Witness).

“On Friday, I can really do everything again. That is of course very nice after all the blood, sweat, and tears of the past period.”

Miedema won’t go straight back into the Arsenal Women’s first-team, however, confirming that she’ll initially play for the academy.

“It’s also scary,” Miedema admitted. “How will my knee hold up? How will things go during the matches? That is exciting. I will first start playing for Arsenal’s second team to gain some rhythm.

“I don’t want to take any risks after all these months of hard work. I want to be at my best before I start again.”

The Arsenal Women begin their new Women’s Super League campaign with a match against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, which will certainly come too soon for Miedema.

But to have the team’s star forward so close to her recovery ahead of the new season is certainly a boost for the side.

It may be a while yet before we see Miedema starting matches for the Arsenal Women again, but it looks like she’s in line to play a significant part in the coming campaign.

After more than nine months out of action, that’s great news for everyone involved in her road to recovery.
