Arsenal’s Katie McCabe has signed a new contract with the club, snubbing interest from a number of Europe’s top sides.

Arsenal confirmed on Friday morning that Katie McCabe has signed a new deal with the Gunners, extending a contract that was due to expire next summer.

David Ornstein reports that Manchester City and Bayern Munich were keen on signing the left-back, in addition to Arsenal rejecting a lucrative bid from Chelsea in January.

Chelsea would still have been interested if McCabe had been on the market, but Arsenal have moved to ensure that’s not the case.

“Arsenal is home for me and I’m excited to have committed my future to this football club,” McCabe said.

“I’ve grown up here as a player and a person and developed a really special bond with our supporters, which means a lot to me.

“Over the years, I’ve experienced some amazing moments here – but I believe that the best is yet to come and I know the aim here at Arsenal is to compete for the highest honours.”

“Katie McCabe brings us so much on and off the pitch,” Jonas Eidevall added.

“So we are delighted to say that she has signed a new contract here with us.

“She has been one of the top performers in world football over the past few years and her quality and character are integral to what we do here.

“We were very proud to see how she stepped up as captain when called upon last season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together moving forward.”

It’s certainly a boost for Arsenal to tie down such an in-demand player to a new deal, with the new season approaching this weekend.

The Arsenal Women will face Liverpool in front of a huge crowd at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, and McCabe is one of the big names many will be there to see in action.
