Martin Odegaard, the Norwegian midfielder who has become a cornerstone in Arsenal’s line-up, has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

Odegaard’s new financial terms

Martin Odegaard’s new contract will keep him at Arsenal until 2028, and it comes with significant financial rewards.

The player is now Arsenal’s highest-paid player, with a salary exceeding £300,000 per week.

The deal underscores how integral Odegaard has become to both the club and manager Mikel Arteta.

A warranted contract

The Norwegian midfielder has shown his worth since arriving at the club, particularly with a strong start to the current season. He’s already netted three goals in just six appearances, and was recognised by earning a spot on the Ballon D’Or list.

“Signing a new contract was a really easy decision for me for lots of reasons” Odegaard said about the contract renewal.

“Mainly what we are doing right now as a club is special, and I want to be a part of that. I’m really excited for what’s to come here. I’ve found a place where I can be really settled and call my home.

“My story is a bit different maybe, as I moved around different clubs since I was 16. At Arsenal, since the first day, I’ve felt great and this is definitely my home now. I just want to say thanks to everyone working at the club and of course, our fantastic supporters. I will continue to give everything to bring success to this club in the years to come.”

Long journey from Real Madrid

Before his move to Arsenal, Odegaard was at Real Madrid where he struggled to find a consistent role.

Multiple loan spells later, he arrived at Arsenal in 2021 on an initial four-year contract.

Arteta and Edu give their thoughts

Sporting Director Edu said: “To agree and complete a new contract with Martin is such great news for us all. He is our captain, an experienced international and a player who gives us so much quality and joy every time he plays for us.

“Martin is still only 24 years old, so there’s still much more to come from him, and we’re delighted that we will be together in the forthcoming years. Odegaard this season

Odegaard was on the scoresheet again for Arsenal as he scored against Bournemouth in Arsenal’s 4-0 rout.

That takes his tally to four goals, and one assist, in 10 games this season.

In total, Odegaard has 28 goals and 16 assists in 115 Arsenal games.
