Arsenal winger Marquinhos completed a transfer to FC Nantes over the summer, joining the Ligue 1 club over a month ago, but he still hadn’t made his full debut until last weekend.

In Nantes’ opening four games of the season, Marquinhos had made three substitute appearances for a total of just 21 minutes on the pitch.

Things hadn’t gone particularly well for the side during that time, falling to defeats to Toulouse and Lille before drawing with AS Monaco and Marseille.

But both situations were rectified in Nantes’ match against Clermont Foot on Sunday.

Marquinhos made the starting lineup for the first time in Nantes colours in the afternoon kick-off, playing on the right wing.

The 20-year-old had some eye-catching moments, completing all three of his attempted dribbles, and having a goalbound shot blocked at close range.

The Brazilian also worked hard out of possession, making three interceptions, a tackle, and a block.

But with his team 1-0, the Arsenal loanee was withdrawn in the 58th minute. Given it was his first start since June, perhaps that’s not surprising.

Nantes almost threw away their win at the end, conceding a penalty in injury time. But Muhammed Cham failed to convert, and the match ended 1-0 for the side’s first three points of the campaign.
