Jakub Kiwior insists he still favours playing at centre-back, despite moving out to the left with Poland on international duty.
Jakub Kiwior was signed by Arsenal as a centre-back earlier this year, but recent matches have seen him often shift out onto the left.
In the wake of Oleksandr Zinchenko’s injury, Kiwior often played on the left of the back four, albeit generally operating as a left-centre-back.
But on international duty with Poland this month, Kiwior operated as a more traditional left-back, staying wide and running the channel.
Speaking to Sky Sports over the break, Kiwior insisted he still prefers to play a central role in defence, but he’s happy to do whatever is asked of him.
“I still think that my favourite position is centre-back,” Kiwior said. “However, it’s the coach who decides where I will play before the match, I know that.
“So now it’s not that important for me where I play, it’s the coach who decides.”
Kiwior’s role as a left-back for Poland is somewhat enforced by necessity, as their squad is lacking in quality left-back options.
The team have centre-backs available in relative abundance, but fewer options on the left.
With Kiwior playing more of a left-sided role with Arsenal lately, he was evidently viewed as the best option to move out onto that side with his national team.
