German media outlet Sport1 recently published an article focusing on Kai Havertz’s struggles at Arsenal since his £75m move from Chelsea.

The report offers a more sympathetic view towards Havertz, suggesting that the German international is still in the early stages of his career at the North London club and shouldn’t solely bear the brunt of the ‘malicious’ criticism.

Criticism from England’s press and fans, including comments from former England international Graeme Souness and professional troll Piers Morgan, have been harsh, to say the least.

Sport1 suggests that this scrutiny is unfairly centred on Havertz, insinuating, not without evidence, that he has become a sort of “whipping boy” for the Premier League audience.

In their article, Sport1 outline a particular missed opportunity by Havertz in the match against Tottenham Hotspur, describing it as a “perfect moment” that could have alleviated the scrutiny.

Yet, they also point out that the 24-year-old has had only six games in which to prove himself.

Sport1 also comment on the challenges facing Arsenal, specifically mentioning a less inspiring style of play compared to previous seasons.

The German outlet posits that Havertz’s struggles are part of a larger set of challenges facing Mikel Arteta’s side.

The German media appears more willing to afford Havertz the patience he needs to adjust to life at Arsenal while correctly writing about the UK press that “the longer the expensive new signing stays behind his form, the more malicious the comments in England become.”
