Arsenal youngster Marcelo Flores completed a permanent transfer to Tigres over the weekend, ending a four-year association with the Gunners.

Writing on Instagram after the transfer was confirmed, Flores sent a message to his now former club.

“To one of the best teams in Europe and the best team in the Premier League: Thank you,” Flores wrote.

“Thank you to the coaches, my teammates, the staff, and all those that helped shape me into the player and the person that I am.

“I couldn’t [have] asked for a better development and place to start my professional journey and I will take away the best memories [of] my time at the club.

“I wish you all the very best and know that this club will always have a special place in my heart.

“Once a gunner…”

It’s certainly a nice message, and it’s a reminder that progression through to the first team at Arsenal isn’t the only way for a club to succeed with a young player.

If you can help push them on and take the next step forward in their professional career, that’s an end in itself.

According to reports, Flores has signed a four-year deal after a transfer worth around £2m to Arsenal, so that’s not bad either.

Flores had a couple of years left on his Arsenal contract, with the Gunners activating their option to extend earlier this year.

Flores spent last season on loan with Real Oviedo, making 15 appearances for the second-division Spanish side.

He’ll now get his first chance to play for his new club next weekend, with Tigres in action in a league clash away to Atlas on Monday, September 18th at 02:00 BST, or Sunday night local time.
